Manzanita Photography is the creative brainchild of Nicole Trejo — a skilled family lifestyle photographer who has been capturing precious moments for families in Klamath Falls and beyond for over five years.

In this article, we take a closer look at the Trejo family — their love for sports, community involvement, and the impact of Manzanita Photography on their lives.

A Blend of Love, Interests, and Talents

Nicole and her husband Brock have been together for over a decade — with their love story beginning as a teaching partnership in Utah.

The couple shares a strong bond, balancing their different interests and working together to create a loving home for their five children: Seattle (14), Bexley (12), Gray (10), Penny (8), and Maggie (6).

Different Paths, Same Direction

Both Nicole and Brock come from diverse educational and career backgrounds.

Nicole holds an English Education degree from BYU and taught briefly in Utah before moving to Ohio with Brock as he pursued his medical education at Ohio State. They then moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where Brock began his rural family medicine residency.

"Brock and I met teaching Spanish together at a training center in Provo, Utah. We had a bit of a Pride and Prejudice beginning (we both had a little of both haha), and we continue to measure out our relationship daily. I don't know if there is something that matters more to either of us than that endeavor, though we both have very different interests personally." — Nicole

Sports, Hobbies, and Community

In addition to their careers, the Trejo family is deeply involved in sports, hobbies, and community activities.

Brock has a history of playing soccer at various levels, and he now coaches his daughter Bexley's soccer team with Basin United. Gray, their son, also plays soccer for the same club.

A Passion for Education and Creativity

Nicole and her friend Heather Dove run a small school that they established in 2020.

The school functions as a private tutoring club with a focus on:

  • Literature
  • Creative writing
  • Hands-on learning experiences

Nicole finds this project incredibly fulfilling and plans to continue running the program indefinitely.

"It's fulfilling to see the kids read literature, write daily, and produce music…"

A Showcase of Talent and Involvement

All five Trejo children are active in various activities and community events:

  • Seattle — a talented singer and pianist
  • Bexley — plays soccer and the violin
  • Gray — also plays soccer and has taken up the cello
  • Penny — loves dancing and playing the guitar
  • Maggie — shares her sister's love for dance

The Trejo children are often seen playing in their neighborhood — embracing the rural charm of Klamath Falls by exploring nearby hillsides and hiking to the local landmark, the "K".

Pacific Terrace — A Close-Knit Community

The Trejo family has lived in the Pacific Terrace neighborhood for over 10 years — appreciating its proximity to:

  • The hospital (for Brock's work)
  • Downtown
  • Various teachers for their children's activities

They cherish their neighbors — describing them as interesting, peaceful, and caring. They feel supported and watched over but maintain a sense of independence and privacy.

Bringing Neighbors Together

The Trejo family actively participates in neighborhood events organized by fellow resident Weston Grimes.

From block parties to Halloween celebrations, they appreciate his efforts in fostering a sense of community spirit — exactly the kind of small-scale neighborhood-level effort that builds a town worth living in.

Embracing the Joy of a Big Family

According to Nicole, the Trejo family doesn't consider themselves to be particularly interesting — but their love for reading, curiosity, and strong family ties makes them unique.

Nicole, as the oldest of nine children, finds the experience of raising five kids both challenging and fun. The family enjoys the buzz of a big household — sharing rooms and working through daily life together.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Although the Trejo family doesn't have a strong focus on travel, they do enjoy an occasional out-of-town family adventure.

But mostly they find contentment in staying at home, reading books, engaging in conversations with friends, and embracing the beauty of Klamath Falls.

Their message to their neighbors is simple:

"We hope they never move. We love our neighbors."

Manzanita Photography — Family, Love, and Community

Nicole Trejo's Manzanita Photography is more than just a business — it's an extension of the Trejo family's values: capturing the essence of family, love, and community in every portrait, every wedding, every milestone session.

Klamath Living readers have seen Nicole's work across many of our cover families and editorial features — including some of the magazine's most iconic photographs.

A Klamath Falls Story

The Trejos are exactly the kind of family that defines Klamath Living's editorial mission — people who showed up, put down roots, built something meaningful, and pay it back to the community through teaching, photography, soccer coaching, music, and the daily decision to be good neighbors.

Thank you, Trejos, for letting us into your home — and for being one of the families that makes the basin a place worth raising kids in.

To the neighborhood of Pacific Terrace: keep the block parties going. The basin needs more of you.
