On Saturday, October 31, the Running Y community in Klamath Falls turned a parking lot into the best kind of Halloween street. From 4 to 7 PM, families walked from trunk to trunk in the upper lot beside the Sports & Fitness Center, and my family and I were right there with them.

Thank you to the Running Y Homeowners Activities Committee, and to everyone who decorated a trunk, set up, handed out candy and stayed until the end. It showed.

The kids had a great time. So did we. We really enjoyed the Haunted Hall inside the Sports & Fitness Center, where a crew had spent the week turning the hall into something spooky, creepy and fun. Then it was back outside for the trunks, and somebody had put real work into every one of them.

Trunk after trunk. A witch smiled from behind a trunk of tombstones and purple webbing. A family of ghosts stood guard behind a little iron fence. A Scooby-Doo gang opened a smoking trunk under a cloud of balloons. A "Breakout" dinosaur trunk was wrapped in caution tape, and an Oktoberfest trunk came with lederhosen and a big friendly dog. Our favorites were the trunk with the spooky crystal ball heads and the scary clown crew.

A night for the community. Mindy Surber, who manages the Sports & Fitness Center, shared afterward that families told her the evening was safe, controlled and full of happy kids. That matches what we saw. It was a great event for our community.

Thank you, Running Y. See you next Halloween.
