In the heart of Klamath Falls, there are individuals whose dedication to community service shines as bright as the sun over our beautiful landscape. Among these local heroes, Leroy and Nora Cabral stand out as beacons of hope, commitment, and unwavering service.

Where It Started

Leroy Cabral's journey into public service began with a life-changing internship at a senior citizens' center during his college years.

"As a 22-year-old 'wet behind the ears' student, I had the privilege to learn from more than 100 seniors what really matters," Leroy reflects.

Those early lessons in family, social responsibility, hard work, and enjoying life set the foundation for what would become a remarkable 45-year career in nonprofit work.

Decades of Leadership

For over three decades, Leroy served as the executive of nonprofits whose missions touched thousands of Klamath Basin lives. Through fundraising downturns, organizational transitions, leadership shifts, and the kind of slow, unglamorous board-and-budget work that defines the nonprofit sector, Leroy stayed.

He stayed because he believed the work mattered. He stayed because he knew the people the work was serving. And he stayed because the model he had learned from those 100 seniors was a model he took seriously: family first, neighbors close, and a life that means something beyond yourself.

Nora's Quiet Partnership

Behind every long career in service is a partner who makes that career possible. Nora Cabral has been that partner for Leroy — and more.

Nora has volunteered alongside Leroy across decades of organizations, brought her own steady presence to community events and board work, and helped raise a family that watched two parents live out what service looks like in real time.

Why It Matters

A community is the sum of the people who choose to invest in it. The Cabrals chose Klamath Falls — and the basin is measurably stronger because of it.

"Volunteers represent the heart and soul of an organization, its purpose or mission." — Leroy Cabral

That conviction has driven 45 years of work. It has inspired countless others to get involved. And it has demonstrated, day after day, that everyone has something valuable to contribute to their community.

A Ripple Effect

As we reflect on the Cabrals' incredible journey, we're reminded of the power of dedication and the ripple effect of kindness. Their story serves as an inspiration for all of us to get involved, to give back, and to make a difference in our community.

Thank You

Thank you, Leroy and Nora.
