Every October, the Klamath County Fairgrounds come alive with costumes, candy, and community spirit as families gather for a Halloween tradition with a purpose: Trunk or Treat.

This year marks the 5th Annual Trunk or Treat, hosted by Klamath County Developmental Disabilities Services (KCDDS) in partnership with the Klamath County Event Center and Klamath Falls Honda/Subaru. The event will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4–7 PM at the John Hancock Event Center, welcoming families from across the region to enjoy a safe, inclusive, and fun-filled evening.

How It Grew

What began in 2021 as a creative solution for families looking for a safe Halloween option has quickly grown into one of Klamath's most beloved annual events. With decorated trunks, costumed volunteers, and buckets of candy, Trunk or Treat captures the magic of Halloween while emphasizing community connection.

In just four years, attendance has skyrocketed — with more than 4,000 people joining in 2024, highlighting the event's impact and popularity throughout our community.

A Mission Beyond Candy

At its heart, Trunk or Treat is about more than costumes and candy. It's about building an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome.

Last year's event showcased rows of elaborately decorated trunks — from spooky haunted-house themes to whimsical cartoon scenes — each one brought to life by dedicated volunteers. Children lined up in colorful costumes, their faces glowing with excitement, while parents enjoyed the peace of mind that comes from knowing their kids were celebrating in a safe space.

A "Quiet Hour" for Accessibility

For families with sensory sensitivities, the event includes a dedicated Quiet Hour — lights down, music off, lower-stimulation environment — so every child can experience the joy of trick-or-treating regardless of how their nervous system processes a noisy event.

Why It Matters

Events like Trunk or Treat highlight the best of what a community can do when it comes together. By removing barriers, offering inclusive options, and welcoming families from all walks of life, it creates shared experiences that build empathy and understanding.

For KCDDS, it's also an opportunity to educate the broader community about developmental disabilities and the importance of accessibility. For families, it's a reminder that Halloween can be magical, safe, and inclusive all at once.
