In the blossoming spring of 1997, destiny brought Brenda and Bobby together through shared acquaintances. The Mick's family name is synonymous with a baseball dynasty in the Klamath community - Bobby and his elder sibling, John, have both been acclaimed athletes and mentors in the game. Bobby even progressed further in his baseball journey.
Their oldest daughter, Kaila, a notably talented sportswoman, is currently in her final year at Oregon Tech, pursuing a dental hygiene course. She is set to graduate with an extra year of eligibility (courtesy of COVID), offering her the chance to make significant contributions on the softball field for the Hustlin' Owls. During her college years, she has participated in three NAIA National Women’s College World Series.
The Mick's other daughter Malia also shines bright on the softball field but a sequence of three knee surgeries during her high school years impeded her chances to frequently play as an outfielder. Owing to her recurring injuries, Malia was prompted to explore a new direction and viewpoint. But during her final year in high school, she left her injuries behind and delivered a truly remarkable softball season. Her performance was so awe-inspiring that the head coach of the women's softball team at Oregon Tech offered her a scholarship. This opportunity not only allowed her to join her sister on the skilled team but also to receive an excellent education in a school renowned for its medical programs - Malia's chosen area of study. Beyond the confines of the softball field, Malia is an enormously talented artist who enjoys expressing her creativity through drawing and painting.
Nolan, the youngest member of the Mick family, is now 17. Raised amidst his sisters' numerous softball games, he found another path to channel his interests and hobbies. A student-athlete at Henley Hornets High School, Nolan is a prominent figure in basketball.
Thanks to the Mick Family for sharing their story in the April 2023 edition of Klamath Living Magazine.
